A huge part of alternative search engines on the market are in fact using exis-tent technologies from other bigger search engines. The most famous ones are AOL, Netscape Search which are both powered by Google. All The Web and AltaVista are powered by Yahoo.

Here the risk is to use twice the same technology to search without knowing it. It is sometimes not explicitly indicated.
Search engine users have to understand what “Powered by” mean and what are the search engines which are providing their own technology and then their own innovation.
